INTERVIEW WITH SHOOT CREEK

INTERVIEWER: So we’re here today with the living legend and founder of JFDITV, Shoot Creek.

SHOOT: Hi.

INTERVIEWER: Hi. Can we start by you telling us a bit about yourself?

SHOOT: What would you like to know?

INTERVIEWER: OK. When did you first start playing video games?

SHOOT: I remember when I was really young, my brother got one of the first home video game consoles. You know the Atari with the game Pong where you had to use paddles to keep the square ball on the screen. Man, we used to play that game for hours on a little black and white telly. It totally blew my mind! I’ve been playing video games on and off ever since, having my mind blown each time I start a new game.

INTERVIEWER: What’s your favourite game?

SHOOT: That’s a tricky one. There are so many really cool games out there. But if I had to choose one, it would be Just Cause 4. The crazy stuff you can get Rico to do is really cool.

INTERVIEWER: It seems that open world games are your preferred genre?

SHOOT: Yeah. I just like the freedom they give you to explore and do what ever the hell you like.

INTERVIEWER: You’ve been playing Cyberpunk 2077 most recently. What is it about CP77 you like?

SHOOT: You could play it all day, everyday for a year and still not find every nook and cranny. It’s truly an awesome game and even with all the bugs, it’s still a very playable game.

INTERVIEWER: So what is JFDITV?

SHOOT: If you don’t know what JFDI means, google it. If my niece and nephew are reading this, the F stands for Flipping! The JFDITV concept was conceived a couple of years ago, but technical problems, other projects and my getting sick have all gotten in the way. The terrible Corona Virus, being locked down and improvements in tech have given us the opportunity to bring JFDITV to life. We’re still at the very beginning, figuring stuff out and I’m having to tech myself new tricks, like web design. You can probably tell that I’m still an amateur. But maybe in the future we can bring on board people with the right skills. I hope in the near future we can have a 24 hour 7 days a week Twitch channel showcasing some of the best gamers out there.

INTERVIEWER: Who is JFDITV?

SHOOT: At the moment, it’s me, my brother and Grandma who is actually my mum. When the world returns to some normality, we can get my niece, nephew and sister in law involved. After that who knows. Hopefully we can get more people to join the JFDITV crew.

INTERVIEWER: Why are you doing this?

SHOOT: Two words – Grandma’s teeth.

INTERVIEWER: Grandma’s teeth?

SHOOT: Yes. Obviously, I would like to be able to afford a latest gen console, a holiday, some new socks. You know. The usual. But our main priority right now is to fix Grandma’s teeth. She’s missing her front two and you can tell she’s very conscious about it. When I lived abroad Skype was kind of new to us. But we would Skype at Christmas and what not. Every time mum was on camera she would put her hand over her mouth and I couldn’t understand why. It was only when I got back to the UK I understood. She had lost her teeth and never told me! I would really like to fix them and see Grandma smile once again, so half of the proceeds from JFDITV will go to the Grandma’s Teeth Fund and hopefully we can get her some implants.

INTERVIEWER: You mentioned living abroad. Whereabouts were you living?

SHOOT: I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for 11 years.

INTERVIEWER: Wow! That’s a long time. What were you doing there?

SHOOT: Mostly drinking. You could say I was an alcoholic.

INTERVIEWER: Did you work?

SHOOT: Yes. I taught English as a second language. And amazingly I only got fired once in those 11 years!

INTERVIEWER: What made you decide to move to Thailand?

SHOOT: Something terrible happened that has left me with PTSD. It’s a long sad story and we don’t have enough tissues at hand. I have to be in the right mood to talk about it and I’m not feeling it today. Maybe next time?

INTERVIEWER: OK. One more question. Why are you a living legend?

SHOOT: Because I’m not dead yet. Fancy a game of Mario Kart?
